Provincial Assembly
July 21, 2025
Over 240 Dominican Friars of the Province of St. Joseph gathered for the first Provincial Assembly in a decade from June 2-4, in Washington, DC. The Provincial Assembly was an opportunity for them to pray together as a province, reflect on the Dominican charism and mission, and discuss the future of the Province. The theme for the Assembly was “Cum Deo vel de Deo,” a phrase from the life of St. Dominic, who is said to have only spoken “with God, or about God.”
While friars often see each other in the course of their duties, a Province-wide gathering like this is rare, held only about once a decade. The opportunity for communal prayer during the sacred liturgy and Eucharistic adoration, discussion, and recreation allowed the friars from disparate parts of the Province to reconnect and renew the fraternal life of the brethren.
Keynote speakers for the Assembly included the Most Reverend Anthony Fisher, O.P., the Archbishop of Sydney; Fr. Gerard Timoner, III, the Master of the Order; and Fr. Allen Moran, the Prior Provincial of the Province of St. Joseph.
One highlight was the blessing of the new statue of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, which sits high atop the Dominican House of Studies. Additionally, the day after the Assembly, many of the friars were able to stay for the festivities on June 5, which saw the ordination of 7 new priests for the Province by Archbishop Fisher.
The 2025 Provincial Assembly took place at the Dominican House of Studies, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, and the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.
