Opening of the 800th Jubilee

800 Years: Preaching for the Salvation of Souls It’s not every day that you turn 800 years old! On this Feast of All Saints of the Order of Preachers, the Dominican Order solemnly opens the celebration of its 800th Jubilee (November 7, 2015 – January 21, 2017). Saint Dominic of Caleruega founded the Order for the purpose of Preaching for the Salvation of Souls. For 800 years, the Order of Preachers has served as an instrument of grace, working for the salvation of souls—in medio ecclesiae—in obedience to the truth. This truth is radiant, above all, in the Dominicans saints and blesseds, whom we honor today—the 103 canonized saints and 374 blesseds of the Order of Preachers, formed in the image of Our Holy Father Saint Dominic. In commemoration of the 800th Jubilee, the Dominican Province of Saint Joseph commissioned the painting featured above, “Beloved Dominican Saints,” to mark the holy year and this extraordinary time of grace.
