The Revolution in Preaching and Evangelii Gaudium

Fr. Peter John Cameron, OP travels to Texas to speak to the Priests’ Convocation of the Diocese of Tyler, held on October 15-19. He will be giving five talks under the title: “Evangelii Gaudium and Pope Francis’ Revolution in Preaching.” Fr. Cameron’s presentation follows his recent book of the same title, where he writes: “With the publication of the apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel), Pope Francis issues a call for a kind of revolution in preaching. It goes hand in hand with what has already come to be the watchword of his pontificate: the Culture of Encounter.” Topics will include preaching in general, the role of Scripture in preaching, essential parts of a good homily, and suggestions for how to make good preaching even better with an overview of resources available. Fr. Peter John Cameron, OP made simple profession in the Order of Preachers in 1981 and was ordained a priest in 1986. Fr. Cameron is a professional playwright and is the founder and artistic director of Blackfriars Repertory Theatre in New York City. He has spent the last twenty years as a seminary professor of homiletics at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC, the Pontifical North American College in Rome, and St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie, New York, where he is currently the chair of the department of homiletics. Fr. Cameron is also editor-in-chief of MAGNIFICAT and is the author of over ten books.
