New Translation of Lacordaire Biography

June 27, 2014

George Christian, O.P., recently published a translation of an early biography of Henri-Dominique Lacordaire, O.P., written by a contemporary of the great Dominican reformer. The book is available on Amazon here. Joseph-Théophile Foisset, the book’s author, was Lacordaire’s long-time friend and publisher; he inherited all of Lacordaire’s notes and writings, and was in a uniquely privileged position to analyze and comment on his life. None of his biographers have known him better. The Life finds its first English translation at the hands of Fr. George, who has completed a project begun with his blood brother, Richard Christian. The Christian brothers started translating Lacordaire three years ago, as collaborators with the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic. The fruits of their labor can be seen at worksoflacordaire.com. The current volume of the Life of Henri-Dominique Lacordaire is the first of two, the second of which should become available presently.
