Opportunities Abound: 2014 Summer Vocation Events

The Dominican Province of St. Joseph recently announced on our vocation site a number of excellent opportunities for men to visit and learn more about the Order of Preachers this summer. Each summer the Office of Vocations arranges various opportunities around the province for men to experience different aspects of the Dominican life for themselves. This summer, there are a host of activities, spread across the province. May 31 (Saturday) – New York City Vocation Event (Manhattan) A tour of St. Vincent Ferrer Church on Lexington Avenue, followed by Vespers and a cookout with the friars from our three New York houses. June 3 (Tuesday) – New England Vocation Event (Providence) A tour of Providence College campus and the nearby St. Pius V Parish, followed by Vespers and a cookout with the Providence friars, closing with an evening talk from Justin Brophy, O.P. on Dominican Ministry at PC. August 3 (Sunday) – Ohio Vocation Event (Columbus) A missa cantata in the Dominican Rite to commemorate the feast of St. Dominic on the old calendar. Interested vocations candidates should RSVP to the Vocations Director, although the mass is open to the public. August 8 (Friday) – Mass for Solemnity of St. Dominic & Vestition of Novices (Cincinnati, OH) The Order’s highest festivities in honor of St. Dominic, combined with the grace-filled event of the new novices receiving the habit. Takes place at the Novitiate house in Cincinnati. August 9 (Saturday) – Mass of Solemn Profession (Washington DC) For those on the East Coast, the day after Vestition, twelve of our brothers who have been studying at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C., will profess their solemn vows at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. August 15 (Friday) – Mass of Simple Profession (Cincinnati, OH) Back in Cincinnati, the outgoing novices will profess their simple vows, committing themselves to living poverty, chastity, and obedience according to the Rule of St. Augustine and the Constitutions of the Order of Friars Preachers for three years. September 19-21 – Vocation Weekend #1 (Washington DC) As the summer turns into fall, the first of the vocations weekends for the year will be held at the Dominican House of Studies.
