He Was Our Father: A Play by Fr. Peter John Cameron, O.P.

November 21, 2013

He Was Our Father, a play about Fr. Michael McGivney, the founder of the Knights of Columbus, has recently been published. Authored by Fr. Peter John Cameron, O.P., and performed in 2005 and 2006 by the Blackfriars Repertory Theatre, the play is now available to the public for the first time. Concerned with the deleterious effects of the widespread secret societies for men in the nineteenth century, Father Michael J. McGivney (1852-1890) proposed a compelling alternative vision of fraternal life by establishing the Knights of Columbus. Founded on principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism, the Knights now have more than 1.8 million members worldwide, and provide fraternal support for their members and charitable aid throughout the world. Benedict XVI declared Fr. McGivney a Venerable in 2008. He Was Our Father traces pivotal moments in Fr. McGivney’s life, narrating not merely the history of an organization or the deeds of a hard-working priest, but a life transformed by the desire for God. The play is available at Amazon.com in digital and print formats.
