Diaconate Ordinations 2013

On Saturday, March 9, 2013, the Most Reverend Martin D. Holley, Auxiliary Bishop of Washington, ordained six of our friars to the Order of Deacons. The Mass took place in the Main Chapel of the Dominican House of Studies. Our six new deacons are: Rev. Br. Peter Totleben, O.P. Rev. Br. Joseph-Mary Hertzog, O.P. Rev. Br. Mario Aquinas Calabrese, O.P. Rev. Br. Leo Checkai, O.P. Rev. Br. Peter Martyr Joseph Yungwirth, O.P. Rev. Br. Sebastian White, O.P. As deacons, they can assist the celebrant at the celebration of Mass, proclaim the Gospel and preach the homily, baptize, witness marriages, and lead funeral services. They will serve as deacons for 15 months before their expected priestly ordination in May 2014. Please keep them in your prayers. Highlights from the Mass can be seen in the following slideshow.
