Providence College Convocation

September 15, 2012

On Tuesday, September 4th, Providence College celebrated the start of the 2012-2013 school year with its opening Academic Convocation.  Fr. Brian J. Shanley, O.P., President of the College, spoke at the event, which served as an official welcome for the College’s new freshmen, transfer students, and faculty members.  Since, as part of the College’s ‘Freshman Common Reading Program,’ all the incoming freshmen and transfer students had read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, the keynote speaker, associate professor of biology and department chair Dr. Charles R. Toth, spoke on a related topic, “How Henrietta Lacks Changed Science and Society.”  More information on the Convocation and Dr. Toth’s speech can be found here. Providence College, located in Providence, RI, is one of the foremost academic ministries of our Province.  Please keep the Dominican Community, Faculty, Staff, and Students of the College in your prayers.
