Sons of the Province of St. Joseph: + In Memoriam + (July 7)

July 7, 2012

It is a Dominican custom to pray for our deceased brethren every day by reciting the De Profundis (Psalm 130).  Join us in prayer as we remember, in a particular way, the sons of the Province of St. Joseph.

Today we remember Fr. Constantius Louis Egan, O.P. In 1863 he became chaplain of the Ninth Massachusetts Volunteers in the Army of the Potomac and witnessed many of the Civil War battles in Virginia.  Appointed prior of St. Rose in 1866, where he built the new priory.  He died on July 7, 1899 and is buried at St. Rose in Springfield, Kentucky. Fr. James Vincent Martin, O.P., S.T.M. died on July 7, 1967.  He is buried at St. Francis in Providence, Rhode Island. Fr. Ferdinand Norbert Georges, O.P. was Director of the Blessed Martin de Porres Guild and was instrumental in the canonization of St. Martin.  He also served as a Preacher General.  He died on July 7, 1969 and is buried at St. Rose in Springfield, Kentucky. Fr. Joseph Adrian Manning, O.P., who was a Preacher General, died on July 7, 1972.  He is buried at St. Joseph in Somerset, Ohio. Fr. John Paul Mahoney, O.P. died on July 7, 1996 and is buried at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island. De Profundis Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord, Lord hear my voice.    R. Let your ears be attentive to my voice in supplication. If you, O Lord, mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand?    R. But with you is forgiveness, that you may be revered. I trust in the Lord, my soul trusts in His word.    R. My soul waits for the Lord, more than sentinels wait for the dawn.  More than sentinels wait for the dawn, let Israel wait for the Lord.    R. For with the Lord is kindness, and with Him is plenteous redemption. And He will redeem Israel for all their iniquities.     R. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.  From the gates of Hell.     R. Deliver their souls, O Lord.  The Lord be with you.    R. And with your spirit. Let us pray:  O God, Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of your servants and handmaids the remission of all their sins, that they may obtain by our loving prayers the forgiveness which they have always desired. Who live and reign forever.    Amen. May they rest in peace.    Amen.  St. Joseph, Patron of our Province.     Pray for us.  Click here for the Necrology Search
