On the Feast of St. Martin de Porres, the Holy See announced the appointment of Fr. Charles Morerod, OP as the new Bishop of Lausanne, Geneva, and Fribourg.  Bishop-Elect Morerod is currently the rector of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (the Angelicum) in Rome.  In 2009, the Holy Father named him as the Secretary of the International Theological Commission.  Fr. Morerod has been a frequent guest and lecturer at our House of Studies in Washington, DC.  Below is a video of Fr. Morerod giving the inaugural address at the recent conference on Thomas Aquinas & Contemporary Philosophy, co-sponsored by the Thomistic Institute at the Dominican House of Studies. In April, Fr. Morerod spoke at the Theological Symposium sponsored by the Thomistic Institute on St. Thomas Aquinas and the Church: Theo-Centric Ecclesiology.  He presented a lecture on ” ‘No Salvation Outside the Church’: Understanding the Doctrine with Thomas Aquinas and Charles Journet”.  He also presented the Aquinas lecture at the House of Studies in 2006. Fr. Morerod is expected to be ordained a Bishop on December 11, 2011 at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Fribourg, with the ordaining prelate being fellow Swiss Dominican, Georges Cardinal Cottier, the Theologian emeritus of the Papal Household.
