“Remembering the End”

Schola Dominicana at at the Church of Saint Catherine of Siena, in Manhattan, presents its inaugural Sounds of Siena Concert: “Remembering the End” on Sunday November 20, 2011 at 3:30PM. This concert will explore music embracing autumn, commemorating the dead, confronting death, and even a piece sung in honor of the end of NASA’s shuttle program. This concert will feature classical works from all periods, from Gregorian chant to the works of Heinrich Schütz, Victoria, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Camille Saint-Sæns to challenging modern composers like Arvo Pärt, Rautavaara, Daniel Gawthrop, Eric Whitacre, Stephen Chatman, and New York City composer Meredith Monk. Also on November 22, 2011. Tuesday 7:00PM there will be a vespers in Honor of Saint Cecilia (as part of the Sounds of Siena Concert Series) the Schola Dominicana will be present to assist with the psalmody and perform Howells’ “A Hymn for Saint Cecilia” and “Salve Regina.”
