Cardinal Burke Receives Honorary Doctorate & Delivers Lecture at Dominican House of Studies

May 13, 2011

His Eminence, Raymond Cardinal Burke was our guest here in Washington, DC where he delivered a Lecture to our friars about the Liturgy (video), and was the celebrant for Solemn Vespers.  He also received an Honorary Doctorate from our school, the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception/Dominican House of Studies/Thomistic Institute.  Before he departed on May 12, he celebrated our conventual Mass here for our community.   Many more photos can be found on our website: DominicanFriars.org.

This posting comes simultaneous with the New Instruction “Universae Ecclesiae” on the application of the Holy Father’s motu proprio “Summorum Pontificum” which was released this morning at 6:00AM EST, with an explanatory note.  This will now have a direct impact on our use of the Dominican Rite of which our provincial website has a tutorial to learn more about our venerable Dominican tradition.

His Eminence, Raymond Cardinal Burke at Solemn Vespers at the Dominican House of Studies

I first met His Eminence when I was chaplain at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome when we invited him to be the celebrant for the university’s annual Eucharistic Procession.  The Angelicum is celebrating a decade of Eucharistic Adoration, organized by the students. It is an excellent place to study!
