Downtown with Dominicans: Street Evangelization in Charlottesville

July 18, 2014

On Friday, July 11, the Dominican community in Charlottesville, Virginia, led a street-evangelization event in the city’s downtown, gathering together young adults, Dominican friars, and Dominican sisters to sing and talk with passers-by. Working with the Frassati Fellowship at St. Thomas Aquinas University Parish and other local young adults, the group consisted of fifteen to twenty young adults singing a mix of folk music, traditional hymns, and TaizĂ© songs, in addition to another five to ten young adults mingling and talking with those who stopped to listen. Three Dominicans from St. Thomas Aquinas Priory and two Nashville Dominican sisters also joined. The street evangelization event lasted from 7 to 9 P.M. The group handed out rosaries, took prayer intentions, and enjoyed the company of those who joined them to talk, pray, inquire, and just sing. See below for a slideshow of the event.
