Nicanor Austriaco, O.P., Preaches White Mass in Providence, RI
October 28, 2015
As the Church prepares to begin celebrating a Year of Mercy, Father Nicanor Austriaco, O.P., reminded the medical professionals gathered to celebrate the annual diocesan White Mass last week that they have a special responsibility to help to alleviate the suffering experienced by the vulnerable and poor among us. Click here for Diocesan coverage of the event by the Editor of the Rhode Island Catholic, Rick Snizek. “In offering the homily at the October 14 Mass, so named because of the white garments traditionally worn by medical caregivers, Father Austriaco, an associate professor of biology at Providence College, recalled the words of St. Thomas Aquinas, who defined mercy as the response of love to misery. ‘The challenge is to be merciful to every single patient who comes into this hospital,’ said Father Austriaco, who has served for many years on the Ethics Committee at Fatima Hospital, in whose chapel the evening Mass was held.”
