St. Francis and the Western Tradition

The Thomistic Institute in partnership with First Things and the Chiaroscuro Institute will be hosting a conference on St. Francis of Assisi and the Western Tradition April 25-26, 2014, at the NYU Catholic Center (238 Thompson St., New York). The conference features an impressive array of internationally renowned scholars and writers: Archbishop Charles Chaput, O.F.M., Cap., Francesca Murphy, Roger Scruton, R.R. Reno, Carol Zaleski, and Philip Zaleski. This timely conference will cover a number of intriguing themes arising from St. Francis’ life and his reception in the wider culture, including his influence on the Western tradition, Islam, ecology, and of course his connections to the current Holy Father, Pope Francis.
