March 10, 2014

On Saturday, March 8, eight Dominican brothers were ordained to the transitional diaconate at the Dominican House of Studies. The eight brothers, Br. Thomas More Garrett, O.P., Br. John Devaney, O.P., Br. Boniface Endorf, O.P., Br. Gabriel Torretta, O.P., Br. Innocent Smith, O.P., Br. Charles Shonk, O.P., Br. Vincent Ferrer Bagan, O.P., and Br. Philip Neri Reese, O.P., were ordained by Bishop Daniel Thomas, auxiliary bishop of Philadelphia and titular bishop of Bardstown. The eight new deacons served as deacons and preached for the first time at various parishes around the D.C. area on Sunday, March 9, following their ordination. They will remain at the Dominican House of Studies for the coming year, completing their studies and exercising their ministry in preparation for their priestly ordination. For more information about the brothers ordained to the diaconate, see our vocations website here. For photographs from the ordination, see our Flickr page here. Please continue to keep these eight brothers, the other eight deacons currently preparing for their priestly ordination this May, and the other student brothers in formation at the House of Studies in your prayers.
