Veterans Day Mass with Fr. Joseph Scordo, O.P.
November 27, 2013
The University Parish of St. Thomas Aquinas in Charlottesville, VA, celebrated its fourth annual Mass in honor of US Veterans a few weeks ago. The pastor and superior of the community, Fr. Luke Clark, O.P., conceived the idea in discussions with Fr. Joseph Scordo, O.P. Fr. Scordo is retired from the Navy, having served our country as a military chaplain for twenty years. This year’s celebration was especially moving. The Veterans Day Mass was Fr. Scordo’s first return to the altar as principal celebrant and preacher after six months of serious illness and incapacitation. Military men and women from all branches gathered for the Mass, and stood in recognition as their service song was played. Immediately following the Mass, there was a rifle volley and playing of Taps in commemoration of the fallen. We are grateful to all who give themselves in service to our country. And we are thankful to have Fr. Scordo back!
