New Book by Fr. John Baptist Ku, O.P.
November 26, 2013
Fr. John Baptist Ku, O.P., has recently published a new book: God the Father in the Theology of St. Thomas Aquinas, American University Studies, Series VII, Vol. 324, Peter Lang 2013. Fr. John Baptist’s book addresses a surprising lacuna in contemporary scholarship on the theology of St. Thomas Aquinas: God the Father. Although St. Thomas’ treatment of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit have received extensive scholarly study in recent decades, his conception of God the Father, his place in the Trinity, and his activity in creation have often been neglected. Neglect naturally leads to misunderstanding; Fr. John Baptist’s work endeavors to correct common misconceptions about who St. Thomas says God is, in the context of his general theology of the Trinity. John Baptist Ku, O.P., earned his S.T.D./PhD at the University of Fribourg, his S.T.B./M.Div. and S.T.L. at the Dominican House of Studies, and his B.S. at the University of Virginia in applied math and computer science. He was awarded the Thomas Aquinas Dissertation Prize by the Aquinas Center for Theological Renewal at Ave Maria University in 2010. He teaches at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C., and also serves as book review editor for the faculty’s journal, The Thomist.
