What Is The New Evangelization?

November 13, 2012

Archbishop DiNoia OP at Mt. St. Mary's of the West (the Athenaeum) in CincinnatiOn September 12, 2012, Archbishop J. Augustine DiNoia, OP, the Vice President of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei, offered the annual Le Bond Lecture at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary (the Athenaeum of Ohio) in Cincinnati Ohio.  This lecture was the first in a series of lectures given in honor of the Year of Faith. Two years ago Pope Benedict XVI established a new Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization, and in October the Ordinary Session of the Synod of Bishops will convene to take up the topic of “The New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith.” But what is the “new evangelization” and why do we need it? Archbishop Di Noia’s talk is on the subject of the “New Evangelization”.   What is it?  Why do we need it? A Dominican theologian who recently served as Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, Archbishop DiNoia earned his doctorate in theology at Yale and his licentiate in theology from the Pontifical Faculty of Theology at the Dominican House of Studies. He taught systematic theology at the Dominican House of Studies for twenty years and was an adjunct professor at the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family Studies. He served as editor-in-chief of The Thomist and has been a frequent presenter at conferences, workshops, symposia, and other educational meetings. Below is a video of the Archbishop’s talk, provided by the Athenaeum of Ohio.
