SUNDAYS IN ADVENT 2012

The Four Last Things:

DEATH * JUDGEMENT * HEAVEN * HELL

AN ADVENT PREACHING SERIES FROM the DOMINICAN STUDENT BROTHERS of the PROVINCE OF ST. JOSEPH

WASHINGTON, DC & CHARLOTTESVILLE,VA

The Dominican Friars invite you to join us for the four Sundays of Advent this year as we preach on the Four Last Things that face every single person in this world: death, judgment, heaven and hell. In this Year of Faith we will explore not just the truth of these things we believe, but the fact they are great gifts from God and how they lead ever closer to eternal life.

December 2nd: DEATH

Death comes to us all, but no one wants to talk about it. But what if you could do more than talk? What if you could have faith in it and beyond it? Join us for a dialectical journey from the Tree of Knowledge to the Tree of Life; alongside Martin Heidegger and St. Thomas Aquinas; as we go from the Garden of Eden to the City of God. -Br. Bonaventure Chapman OP

December 9th: JUDGEMENT

After death our immortal soul will leave our bodies and our entire lives then will be judged before God. This mysterious moment after our natural death will begin the supernatural life. Find out what we can expect, how we can prepare, and most of all how we must entrust ourselves to the Divine Mercy of Jesus Christ. – Br. John Maria Devaney OP

December 16th: HEAVEN

St. John says that in heaven “we will see God as He is.” What does it mean to see God? How will it make us happy forever? -Br. John Sica, OP

December 23rd: HELL

Christmas decorations are up, presents are purchased, and music is already playing. We’re ready to celebrate the birth of Christ Our Savior. But what was he born to save us from? This last talk in our Advent series will help us remember exactly why all our music has meaning and our presents have purpose. -Br. Philip Neri Reese, OP
