Friars Gear Up for Vocation Weekend in Nation’s Capital
September 22, 2012
One week from today, the friars at the Dominican House of Studies will lead another “Come & See” Vocation Weekend. The first weekend is once again full with over 20 men attending from all over the United States. Space is limited due to the 80 friars in the priory. Speakers include Fr. Nicanor Austriaco OP, professor of Biology from Providence College who will speak on “The Dominican Spiritual Life.” Other speakers include Fr. Ken Letoile OP (prior) and Fr. Brian Chrzastek OP (subprior), and Fr. Andrew Hofer OP (new master of students). This year’s candidates will be particularly blessed to have Fr. Pius Pietrzyck OP back from the Angelicum in Rome, where he is pursuing a degree in Canon Law. Fr. Pius’ talk will be “St. Dominic within the History of Religious Life.” Candidates are also invited to arrive early for a special Mass in the Dominican Rite on the evening of September 27 in the Main Chapel of the Dominican House of Studies. Fr. Pius will be the celebrant and preacher. This Mass and all liturgies are open to the public. Men attending the weekend also have the chance to learn about and enroll in the Dominican Order’s Confraternity of the Angelic Warfare of St. Thomas Aquinas from it’s director, Fr. James Brent OP who teaches Philosophy at the Catholic University of America. The first night of the weekend includes a holy hour and night prayer (compline) with the student brothers and an informal recreation. It is a great opportunity for young men to pray with the friars and learn why such a vocation might be possible for them. Please keep those attending in your prayers. *Related story on vocation blog: The Lord has given us Great Hopes of a Good Catch!
