Blinded By Faith? Misconceptions (and Right Conceptions) About Religious Belief

July 24, 2012

Br. Patrick Mary Briscoe, OP
Br. Patrick Mary Briscoe, OP, one of our student brothers from the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC, is assigned for the summer to to Aquinas House in Hanover, NH.  As part of his summer apostolate there, Br. Patrick has been invited to speak at the local “Theology on Tap”, sponsored by the John Paul II Generation and the Diocese of Manchester’s Young Adult Ministry.  Br. Patrick will discuss some of the common criticisms and misunderstandings of religious belief today, including arguments from the “new atheists”, and present the true Christian understanding in contrast. Faith is not simply blind trust, but an assent affirmed and guided by reason. Not mere credulity, it is a light which allows the believer to see and act according to the highest reality, God. For those near Hanover, NH, the talk will be at Murphy’s on the Green, 11 S. Main Street, Hanover on Tues July 24th at 9pm.
