Path to Redemption: Reflections on the Triduum

Each year as we celebrate the Sacred Paschal Triduum, the Church enters into the mysteries of our redemption. Christ’s actions have healing effects and draw us into the mystery of God’s love for us. Aside from the major liturgies on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter, the Church also uses the Liturgy of the Hours (the Divine Office) to help us follow Christ from the Cenacle through Calvary to the Resurrection.  During these days, the liturgy punctuates Christ’s steps along the path of our redemption and allows us to meditate on each saving action. In Path to Redemption: Reflections on the Divine Office During the Triduum, Br. Peter Martyr Joseph Yungwirth, O.P., has compiled a series of reflections on the various Offices during the Paschal Triduum.  In each of these reflections, he follows the text of the liturgy as it leads us along with Christ through these various events.  Whether or not one is able to pray the Liturgy of the Hours during the Triduum, these reflections can be a helpful means to allow the liturgical life of the Church to sink into our hearts and draw us deeper into the mystery of Christ’s redemption.
