Vocation Office Updates for February 2012

We have some new updates from our province (and from Fr. Dominic Izzo OP) which you will find here. (N.B. my correct email is vocations@dominicanfriars.org) You will see a summary of some of the preaching our friars have done recently. Certainly this is a busy semester for the vocation office. May St. Joseph, patron of our province, intercede for us and for vocations to the Order of Preachers!
Our next vocation weekend will be March 30-April 1, 2012. It is already half full!
Some of my activities in the days ahead – please pray for a “fruitful harvest”…
–Feb. 3-5, 2012 Vocation Weekend at the Dominican House of Studies (please pray for the men attending); we will have an optional enrollment for vocation guests in the Angelic Warfare confraternity.
-Feb. 6, 2012 Fr. Austin Litke OP will speak at Theology on Tap in the Arlington Diocese on “Ancient Heresies & their Modern Forms,” while I will hear confessions (in a pub!)
-Feb. 8 I will go to George Mason University for the 4PM Holy Hour w/Confessions and 5PM Mass.
-Feb. 12 I will do the 6:30PM student Mass at the University of Delaware and meet the students.
-Feb. 15-19 Fr. Austin Litke OP and I will go to Hillsdale College in Michigan for a mini university parish mission. We will be preaching to the students & the parish for a Holy Hour on campus, a day of recollection, as well as the weekend Masses.
-Feb. 24-25 Fr. James Brent OP will be leading a Lenten retreat, with my assistance, for the students at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio called “Love, Sex, and the Angelic Warfare” (the retreat will finish with optional enrollment in the Angelic Warfare Confraternity of St. Thomas Aquinas)
-Feb. 26 Fr. James Brent OP and I will celebrate the evening Mass at the Cathedral of St. Paul for the students at the University of Pittsburgh with a talk on confession following.
…thinking ahead…
-March 2-5, 2012 I will be at a joint formators meeting in St. Louis, MO to meet and plan with the OP vocation directors from the other provinces. Please say a prayer for the efforts of our 4 provinces to raise up an army of Preachers for the Lord! (our meeting will be at the studentate for the Central & Southern Provinces, the newly established St. Dominic Priory)
-March 5-7, 2012 I will be at St. Vincent Ferrer, our Dominican parish in New York City for the talk on St. Thomas Aquinas and the Mass in the Dominican Rite at the high altar of St. Vincent Ferrer – it should be beautiful!
-March 10 Six of our friars will be ordained to the Diaconate here at the Dominican House of Studies. Some of you will come for this, but please let me know who you are as our space is limited!
