Was Steve Jobs a Thomist?
October 7, 2011
Today, as I swiped through the new Dominican website on my iPad, I stopped to pray a few Hail Mary’s for the repose of the soul of Steve Jobs. Viewing the newly launched site on the iPad was a wonderful experience. (See the screenshots below.) The functionality allows you to swipe to move between posts, with a great page-turning animation. You can also add the site as an icon to your iPad’s home screen. The result is a new Dominican app icon. Thank you Steve, you truly made it easier for us to preach the Good News! In 1994 Umberto Eco wrote an essay “Mac vs. DOS” claiming that Mac users were like Jesuit trained Catholics. Although he meant it as a compliment, I don’t believe that Steve Jobs had Baroque or even Jesuitical tendencies, but I do agree that his inventions can make one cheerful, are user friendly and even conciliatory towards a wayward PC user. Blessed are the peacemakers! Réquiem ætérnam dona ei Dómine; et lux perpétua lúceat ei. Requiéscat in pace. Amen.
