July 11, 2012

The Thomistic Institute of the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies is holding its first annual Renewing the Priesthood conference for Diocesan priests on  July 10-12, 2012. Hosted at the Dominican Church of Saint Louis Bertrand in Louisville, Kentucky, this year’s topic is Becoming a Better Confessor: The Priest as Minister of Divine Mercy, Spiritual Father & Moral Teacher. The conference is focusing on practical strategies to help diocesan priests become better confessors and to help them exercise more fruitfully their spiritual fatherhood in this important ministry. Guided by the wisdom of the Thomistic tradition and prompted by the call of Pope Benedict to renew the ministry of the confessor, the  conference includes roundtable discussions on issues of immediate relevance to the life of priests. The Most Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D., Archbishop of Louisville, Kentucky and Vice-President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops will be the principal celebrant and homilist on Wednesday. Distinguished speakers include:  Fr. Benedict Groeschel, CFR, Fr. Romanus Cessario, O.P., Fr. John Corbett, O.P., and Fr. Michael Sherwin, O.P. Holy Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, choral Divine Office, common meals and recreation help to provide a prayerful, relaxed and fraternal atmosphere for priests who desire to become better confessors.
